Week 69 - 9 January 2011 Baptism

This week was a really good week for us. The best part was that we had a baptism! A 14 year old boy went to church with his aunt and  uncle for the past three Sundays, and we started teaching him two weeks ago. He really likes the church, and he was definitely an eleito. The only thing holding him back was his dad who didn't agree with him going to church. So we were a little down because of this, but we kept working with him and put this last Saturday as a goal. Then when we went over to his house on Friday, we asked him how the situation was with his dad, and he smiled and told us that he finally let him get baptized! So then we went over the interview questions, filled out the form, and got the signature from his dad all at the same time. Then on Saturday, we had a baptismal service and everything was great. I’m not sure if it was the Lord that softened his Dad’s heart to let him be baptized, but that sure made our week a lot better.

Also, we have another 17 year old girl we started teaching this week. (this is kinda funny). She’s studying English with another boy we’re teaching and will be baptized soon.  When he told her that I was American, she got super happy and started asking questions about English. So I was there helping them out a little, and she started asking other questions about me and stuff and basically asked me out...hahahaha  I had to clearly explain to her our purpose as a missionary after that haha. Then as we were leaving, she said goodbye and she totally tried to hug me... I froze like an ice cube and was like no no no you can’t do this! hahaha Man that was funny. She later told us that she wasn’t too sure if she wanted to be baptized or not...but we’ll see if we can get her friends in the church to help her out.

This next week coming up, we have lots of appointments marked with the members to show us new investigator and friends to teach, so I’m looking forward to another good week!

Love you guys! Until next week!

Week 68 - 2 January 2012 Feliz Ano Novo

This week was a pretty tough week for the work here. The new year is always super tough here because there is sooooo much partying and drinking and horrible stuff like that. But besides the fact that it was tough, it wasn't too shabby. We are still looking for lots of new investigators because we needed to cut off a lot. The transfer is today too, and Elder Rodrigues and I will both stay here, yay!

I don’t have too much time today, and actually don’t have too much to write haha. But on the street this week, a lady in a wheelchair stopped us and started talking to us and told us she knows a lot about the church and has a desire to be baptized. We were happy and taught her and everything, but she didn’t go to church. Then, Ederson, who served here 4 years ago, said that he already taught her and she always says this but she never actually does anything. So that was a bummer this week. We thought we found an eleite person, but maybe she’s only tricking us. We’ll see this week.

Oh also during one night this week, I was sleeping when all of a sudden a bug flew into my ear! I think it was a mosquito. It went in and was just buzzing around making tons of noise and wouldn’t get out. So I grabbed a q-tip to try to get it out, but I ended up poking it and killing it inside my ear. So now I don’t know if it’s still in there or not...haha just a funny little story of the tons of bugs here.

Tchau!
